Scrappy Diamond Quilt

First (full-size) finish of the year is in the books.

Scrappy Diamond Quilt
And how fitting that it is a scrap quilt. Of all my fabric (and boy howdy, is there a lot fabric!) my scraps are my favorite. I'd much rather dig around in my scrap bins than pull together a color-story of fat quarters any day. Scraps are so freeing to me... I don't worry about color placement, nothing gets planned out ahead of time... just keep stitching until a finished quilt emerges.

I've had the idea for this quilt for a couple of years now. I bought the charm packs of Moda neutrals from a friend at least a year ago, but I just never got around to getting started. Then last month I started playing with a few of the charm squares (in all honesty, I was probably procrastinating doing something else), and next thing I knew I had worked my way through a full charm pack. A few nights later and another charm pack was done. Before long I had 168 squares stitched and trimmed.

The scraps in this quilt are extra special, because they're not just left-overs from my projects. Patty Sloniger shared some pieces of her latest line Emma's Garden, I won a massively-stuffed parcel of scraps from Alyssa Thomas of Penguin and Fish, and a couple of recent swaps have had scraps stashed in as an extra goodie... and all of those are in this quilt.
