Daydream Quilt

Last month I road-tripped to Atlanta with Amy, Liz and Jacey for The Stash Bash. Amy was super-sweet to offer up her car for the trip, and even though it was the biggest car of the four of us, there wasn't going to be a whole lot of extra room once we got our sewing machines packed. So I tried to pack as light as I could. I figured this trip would be a great time to work on some long-lingering WIPs. I packed up 3 or 4, and was mighty proud of myself for being focused (and for not massively over-packing).

And then we got to GA. My smug attitude quickly turned into blah... I didn't want to work on ANY of the projects I brought. So what's a girl to do? SHOP!!

We had already planned for a stop at A Scarlet Thread in McDonough, GA so I picked up a Jelly Roll of Daydream by Kate Spain and a yard of purple sketch.

And before the weekend was over I had a completed quilt top.

Daydream Quilt

Last weekend I quilted this up with a fast and easy meander. Sort of my re-acquaintance with the longarm... I really didn't mean to stay away from it for two months, but boy how time flies when you're busy, traveling, sick, etc!

And I LOVE the Kona I picked for the backing. That was a total cross-your-fingers-and-hope-for-the-best moment... I picked that shade with nothing more to reference than an Instagram picture of the quilt on my phone. But I don't think I could have purpously picked a better shade of purple!

School Days Notebook Covers

Sheesh... I didn't think I'd ever get back to blogging something other than my weekly wrap-up. Last month and half has been: travel... Easter... travel... sick... travel... mad dash to catch up... travel... mad dash to catch up some more. But life should be slowing down a bit here soon and my calendar is looking refreshingly empty!

And somehow, amid all of this craziness, I am ahead of schedule for end-of-year teacher gifts. You read that right... two weeks of school left, and I have finished every last gift! (insert Snoopy dance here). I went easy this time around... everyone is getting the same thing, with the same fabric, and there are no zippers!

Megan's primary Kindergarten teacher will be getting a quilt. She's a first year teacher, and even with 21 kids in her class, she still found time to give Megan a little extra time and attention, so I wanted to give her something a little special. Everyone else... PE, Art, Computer, Music, Principal, Librarian, After-School Teachers... will be getting notebook covers.

School Days Notebook Covers

I just love how these turned out! And they came together so fast! I cut my fabrics by the width of fabric, sewed the three fabrics together, lightly quilted some batting scraps to it (much better than running out to JoAnns for yards of fusible fleece!!), trimmed them down to size, and finished up the interiors. A few hours of work and I had 12 of these done!

I'm already plotting what next year's fast and fun gift will be.

Quilting Retreats

For the last two weekends I have been away at quilting retreats... The Stash Bash outside of Atlanta, GA and my local MQG retreat near Smithville, TX. I love both of these events! They are laid back (read: PJs all day and no makeup needed!) and full of good friends and good food.

 In addition to the sewing...

Finally a #thestashbash finish. Quilt top with Daydream by @katespain for @modafabrics
