I don't participate in too many swaps. Between family and work, I don't have many free hours for sewing so I'm usually a little selfish with what I use that time for. But this fall I got bit by the swap-bug (and bit hard)! With the wrap-up of each swap I intended to blog about the swap and what I made, but well... that didn't happen. So here's a super-quick review of what I've made and sent out into the world:
CuppaKim's Annual Mug Swap
This swap doesn't require anything other than a mug to be sent, but I couldn't NOT send a little something handmade. I used my friend Beth's tutorial to make the hearts.
Don't ask me why I can't find a picture of the finished quilt, but I loved how it turned out. That grey Moda crossweave is probably my favorite fabric of the moment.
Halloween Sack Swap
I loved working with Sweetwater's Boo Crew fabric to make this little Halloween bag. And filling it with Halloween goodies was just as fun!
Halloween Basket Swap
A few more bits and pieces from the Boo Crew fabric were used to make a Halloween basket - also filled with some fun Halloween goodies.
There was a little snag with the Ghastiles Swap, so I ended up making two projects (but don't worry... I also received two packages). The first item is the Reversible Box Tote (a free pattern) which I changed just a little bit and used binding around the openings (it helped with the bulk of the bag after quilting it).
The second gift was a notebook cover and little fabric-covered corkboard (notice a theme with the Moda Crossweave yet?)
Kitty Mini Quilt Swap
My partner had four kitties and loved the color aqua, so this felt like the perfect marriage of both those loves.
Favorite Things Recipe Swap
Another non-sewing swap... in this one we were sending a copy of our favorite recipe and something to go along with it in the kitchen. My partner loved cookbooks so I sent along a copy of the Junior League cookbook (which has a couple of my recipes in it.)
Handmade Birthday Swap
Our October birthday girl was Amy. She lives in the DFW area now, but is originally from Galveston, so I thought this little bag, made with scraps from the quilt I made for a family trip to Galveston, would be a nice little bit of home for her birthday.
Starbucks Mug Swap
I love Starbucks mug swaps and join any that I can find. In this swap we were sending a mug rug along with our mugs. Boy did I have fun playing with my scraps on this one! So much so that I made similar coasters for a later mug swap.
Liberty of London Swap
I don't have a big stash of Liberty fabrics, so I was a little hesitant to sign up for this swap. But when I read my partner's info email and saw that she liked Hello Kitty Liberty fabric, I thought "Jackpot! Now I have a reason to shop... and maybe add a little Hello Kitty to my own stash."
London Calling Swap
For this swap we were making Noodlehead's pouch. And even though I have a fairly good selection of London themed fabrics in my stash, I had to buy some of this teapot fabric when I ran across it online.
Holiday Sack Swap
And the last one... a Holiday themed sack swap. I used Lori Holt's free pattern (she's been hosting a quilt-along on Instagram) for the ornament. So fun and fast to stitch up!
Well, there you have it... what I've been stitching up for the last 4 or 5 months. I still have one more Handmade Birthday swap to stitch up, and then my 2014 sewing commitments will be done. But 2015 will be here soon, and with it, the Disney Mini Quilt Swap (and then I've promised myself a little swap break).
