Domestic Bliss Quilt

Back in January I pieced together a quilt top from a pattern in the book Scrapbasket Surprises. I loved the finished quilt top, and immediately began thinking of making another one... a little bit bigger.

So in February, with 2 Jelly Rolls of Domestic Bliss and some Kona Coal, I set out to remake the top with a few more blocks than the original. The pattern sews up quickly, and if I could have made a decision on how to quilt it, I probably would have been finished right away. But instead I kept waiting for inspiration to strike.

Domestic Bliss

When I found out I was going to get to spend a weekend at my mom's last July, I lugged this quilt (and a few more) in my carry-on bag through New York, Boston, and finally to my mom's place in New Hampshire. Thought I'd take some time that weekend to use my mom's longarm machine... okay, that was a crazy idea! I had less than 72 hours to spend with family, many I hadn't seen in years... who wants to be locked away in a room with a longarm machine when you could be eating Kimball's ice cream or sailing (rather, attempting to sail) on Dublin Lake? Mom offered to keep the quilts and work on them for me.

Domestic Bliss

When she came for a visit earlier this month she brought this quilt, and one more, with her (one in her carry-on bag and one in dad's carry-one bag.)

And within days of getting the binding on, Megan asked to sleep under it.  Makes my heart warm!

Post-Sewing Summit Swap

This gets said time and time again, but it's true... the best part of Sewing Summit really is the people! The people you travel with, the instructors, the fellow attendees... and while the classes are great, it's the people that make the weekend truly special.

To help keep the magic of the weekend alive, Liz has organized a Post-Sewing Summit Swap. I wasn't able to participate in the 2011 swap, so I jumped at the chance to take part in this year's swap.

I was super-excited when I received my partner's name and found out I would be sewing for Karen! I got to spend a day with Karen before Sewing Summit officially kicked off. See, rather than join in on the Shop Hop bus, the 6 of us traveling together from Houston decided to rent a mini-van and have our own little shop hop. Someone in the group met Karen the night before and invited her to join our group. It was so much fun to have her along for the ride!

On Karen's list of things she would like to receive was a bag. And remembering a bag I had seen at Sewing Summit, and fell in love with, I made her a Jane Market Bag with selvedges stitched together to form the pocket.

Selvedge Jane Market Tote

Today I received a package from the person sewing for me... I might have squealed a little when I saw the return address was Liz!! I had seen pictures of the progress on Instagram and was in love!! And she sent along some fabric... fantastic elephants, and one of the two pieces from Castle Peeps I never got my hands on... and a Starbucks gift card.

OMG!! @lizinprogress I love it!! Thank you so much!! #sewingsummit #ss12swap

She could not have put together a better "me" package than this.

Go! Baby

Embarrassing, but true... about a year ago I won an AccuQuilt Go! Baby machine, and I haven't used it yet.

It isn't that I don't love it... I do! And I'm so grateful to the AccuQuilt folks for donating prizes to the 2011 HMQG Quilt Market and Festival meet-ups! But winning the Go! Baby was the easy part... picking out dies to buy was the hard part! So I kept putting it off.

AccuQuilt Go Baby

Last week I finally took a good look at the available dies, and picked out a couple to start with

AccuQuilt Dies

Rose of Sharon (on the bottom) I bought to make pretty flower hair clips for my sweet little girl.

The hexagon die was inspired by Kati's hexagon demonstration in the Sewing Summit Shapes and Angles class.

And the two square dies (to cut 5", 4.5", and 2.5") I hope will help me cut through my scrap bins. I see a long Thanksgiving weekend ahead full of movies and working through my scrap bin!

Any dies you love?  Any suggestions for the next dies I should buy?

Quilt Market and Festival

Two weeks since Quilt Market
One week since Quilt Festival

So I thought it might be about time to show you what I came home from the shows with...

Quilt Market
Once again I braved Sample Spree! Bought more than I planned, but less than I wanted... that evens things out, right?

Quilt Market
Clockwise from the top:Type, Folk Tales, Boho and PBJ, Kokka, and Architextures

I also came home with a bunch of books from author signings... maybe over the next couple of months I'll work my way through them and share some short reviews with you.

Quilt Festival
By the time Festival rolled around I had already spent 3 full days at the convention center for Market... I was exhausted and it showed in my shopping. 2 full days at festival and this is what I came home with

Quilt Festival
three 1-yard cuts (thought they would make good bindings), two 2-yard cuts which will become backing for a planned-but-not-yet-started project, a spool of thread (King Tut grey variegated that I'm excited to try out), and a postcard quilt (mine was made by Beryl Taylor)

Now to find a home for all these new goodies!
