Magic Number Quilt

Not only do I have two quilt finishes for September, but both are Magic Number quilts.

Magic Number Quilt

After making a test block for the do. Good Stitches quilt, I went through my scrap bins and cut loads of 2.5", 4.5" and 6.5" squares. It was a lot of cutting, but hubby and I were watching The IT Crowd on Netflix and the time passed quickly (have you seen it? If not, you NEED to!! It is funny... like laugh-so-hard-you-have-trouble-breathing-and-tears-are-streaming-down-your-face funny!)

Magic Number Quilt Detail

I had planned on quilting this on mom's long-arm machine when I went to NH this summer. But with only 3 days there, and lots of family I hadn't seen in years, I didn't want to be locked away in the sewing room for hours. So I left it with mom, and she quilted it for me. She used a lovely light green thread on it... nothing too dramatic, but just a little something more than a plain white or off-white.

For the backing I used a print from the Flower Bucket collection (I've used this line before for backing and love them!) And the binding again is the grey seeds from the re-release of Flea Market Fancy.

Travellin' Pic Stitch Blog Hop

Have you seen the English Paper Piecing Blog Hop being put together at Quokka Quilts?  It starts October 1st (with Katy of I'm a Ginger Monkey) and runs through November 30th... my stop is October 17th.

I've picked out my favorite travel photo... created a color palette... matched up fabrics... selected an EPP pattern... edited down my fabrics to fit the pattern...

78:365 Stitching my way across OK & TX.

I'll be traveling next week which means lots of time on planes and lots of time for stitching.

So make sure to come back on October 17th to see my project... and I may share my super-secret, best-ever tip to help make your Disney vacation extra-special.

pssst... these pictures aren't a part of my blog-hop project, I just wanted something pretty to add in.

100 Day Hustle

Scrolling through Blog-land this weekend I stumbled upon Kelsey's 100 Day Hustle.  This weekend marked not only the start of Fall, but also 100 days left in 2012.  And Kelsey is hosting a work-along to get through those to-do lists and start 2013 off fresh.

So I thought I'd look back on my list from May to see what progress I've made: (all of these just need to be quilted)
1. 1974 DONE
2. Washi HST
3. American Jane Square-in-Square
4. Verna Postage Stamp
5. Simple Abundance Postage Stamp
6. Sugar Pop Tumbler (baby size) DONE
7. Made in Cherry/Made in Swoon DONE
8. Simple Abundance Stacked Strip (baby size)
9. Ruby Baby Quilt
10. Hushabye Feed Sacks - with Mom for quilting
11. Domestic Bliss Feed Sacks - with Mom for quilting
12. Jelly Roll Race
13. Aqua & White String
14. Pumpkins Gone Wild Disappearing 9-patch
15. Oh Cherry Disappearing 9-patch
16. Tranquility McGuffrey

And a few other things I've been working on:
1. HMQG mini-quilt
2. Mega Swoon
3. Urban Cowgirl Braid
4. Vintage Modern Quilt
5. Scrap Vomit Part 2
6. October do. Good Stitches
7. Hexie EPP
8. Granny Square

Truth be told, I'd be thrilled to finish even a fraction of these.

WIP

My little sewing room is getting a little overloaded with projects that need to be finished up. A couple have looming deadlines... one I want to finish RIGHT NOW because I'm that in love with it... a couple are "just because" projects that really need to be finished before I can start anything else...

WIP
Left to Right: Mega Swoon (Beetle Boy) that needs to be quilted; Urban Cowgirl Braid that needs the columns pieced together; a little peek at my mini-quilt for the the HMQG swap; Magic Numbers is ready for binding to be hand-stitched (I know what I'll be working on at swim lessons this weekend!)
  WIP
Left to Right: Scrap Vomit v2; Vintage Modern quilt top that needs quilting; Scraps for September's do. Good Stitches blocks (and a little bit of October's fabrics peeking out of the corner.)

I probably won't make much headway in the coming weeks since October will be a busy one... a trip to Boston, Sewing Summit, Quilt Market, and Quilt Festival.

More Baby Bibs

I whipped up a few more baby bibs this week.

Baby Bibs

The swimming frogs bib is for a friend with a new baby boy. And the sweet pink bibs are for another friend to give to her niece's new little girl.

And the best part for me... all the fabrics came from my stash. Love a little stash busting for friends!

do. Good Stitches Magic Number Quilt

What started as an experiment with Katie's Magic Number process...

June do. Good Stitches

...turned into inspiration for the June quilt in do. Good Stitches Grace circle.

Magic Numbers do. Good Stitches

The top is made from 16 14-inch blocks and finishes at about 56" square.

Magic Numbers do. Good Stitches

2 more blocks were pieced into the backing fabric (Fern print from Ellen Crimi-Trent's Woodland Friends II collection).

After lots and lots of thought, I finally decided to give free-motion quilting a try. I've done some FMQ on my mom's long-arm machine, and some pebble quilting on a wallhanging, but nothing like this before. So I was a little nervous starting out. But I put on some good music and took off.

Magic Numbers do. Good Stitches

Is it perfect? NO
Was it easier than I thought? YES
Am I ready to try it again? YES
