Flower Vase Wrap

Someone special to our family needed a little extra sunshine this week... the kind of sunshine that a colorful bunch of daisies can bring. And for a little extra touch I sewed up a wrap for the vase.

I got stood up today... by the repairman. I rearranged my day to be home for him and he called to cancel... because it might rain (3pm now and not a single drop of rain by the way). But I guess it was all for the best. No excuses not to tackle that nagging to-do list before I fly out to Chicago Sunday (for a week... without hubby and the little one... I'm sad already).

First must-do thing on my list was the March do. Good Stitches blocks for Grace circle. Our quilter for March came up with a tutorial for these adorable tulip blocks. Can't wait to see this quilt come together!

Houston Modern Quilt Guild Swaps

I finished up a little sewing last weekend for 2 Houston Modern Quilt Guild swaps.


First up was the birthday swap... we take turns bringing in a little gift for birthday girls... a little fabric, a little chocolate, and a handmade item. This year I'm gifting Gabby as her birthday is the next one after mine.

I know Gabby likes the Washi fabric collection, so I used scraps from a quilt I'm working on to make her a little clutch (pattern is Strap Clutch by Keyka Lou)





Since I won't be at this weekend's HMQG meeting Gabby and I were able to get together for lunch Sunday and so I could deliver her gift.

I loved putting together the clutch! I've got fabrics picked out for another one (this one will be for me).


March also brings to a close the Scrap Swap we started in January. I brought home a selection of flannel scraps from Pam. After much thought I decided to make her a patchwork basket. After all, who doesn't need a little additional storage in their sewing room.



I'm excited to see what my partner made for me... maybe I'll get a sneak peak before the April meeting.

Dutch Oven Bread

An early birthday gift from hubby...



... lead to the most magnificent bread I've ever made! (okay... truth told I really don't make any breads other than banana bread and zucchini bread, but still this bread is AMAZING!!)







I could't resist a little nibble while it was still warm!


The recipe is from Joy the Baker Did you know she just published a cookbook? Think I might need to buy myself a little birthday gift!

A Quilt Along Finish

Another Work in Progress is done! This was KarrieLyne's Charm Pack Quilt Along from Summer 2010.



I finished piecing it October 2010. And then it sat... waiting to be quilted (kind of a common theme around here.) Around October/November of last year I sent this quilt, and one more, off to Lindsay for quilting. Lindsay got them back to me super-fast! And then it sat again... waiting for binding.



The quilt now lives on the sofa (since Megan claimed the Sugar Pop Tumbler for her bed.)
