WIP Wednesday

A little peek at the projects taking over my studio:


For some reason I just had to cut out the quilt I had in mind for this Jelly Roll. No real plans for when I'll get started on sewing it... Maybe at the upcoming HMQG retreat.



I haven't made any progress on putting together my Domestic Bliss quilt, but after some help on Twitter and Instagram I have decided to go with Kona Coal for the center squares.



So what do you do when you have a project you haven't started yet, but you REALLY want the "scraps" from it right now for something else? If you're me, you spend an evening cutting out a quilt... Maybe another project to take along to the retreat!



I'm all ready to start the Granny Squares Quilt Along!



And finally some progress on my Made in Cherry quilt... Basted and ready to start quilting.


I think that's more than enough to keep me busy for a while!

Sugar Pop Tumbler Quilt

One thing you might have figured out about me is that I love sewing together quilt tops, but I'm not so good with finishing them up. There is always some part that I seem to drag my feet on (usually it is piecing the backing.)

So I guess it really shouldn't have surprised me that this quilt took just over a year to finish.




The piecing was completed February 27, 2011...



I basted it September 1, 2011 and finished up the quilting that next week...



The binding was attached January 17, 2012...



And middle of this month I finally hand stitched down the binding...



Feels good to have another WIP off my list!

Granny Square Quilt Along

2012 must be the year of the fantastic quilt alongs!! First there was the Made in Cherry quilt along (my quilt is pieced, just needs to be quilted now) and then the Swoon-along (fabrics are picked out for that one, but I haven't gotten started yet). And now Dana's Old Red Barn Co Quilt Along group on Flickr are starting the Granny Square Quilt Along soon. I think I've been a member of the group since the very first quilt along, but this will be the first one I make along with them.



Now to decide on fabric... Scrappy.... Or something I've been hoarding (um, I mean saving for just the right project). Right now I'm leaning towards this fantastic stack of Pam Kitty Morning goodness.

L.O.V.E. Quilt

Happy Valentine's Day!

I had fun putting this mini-quilt together using some of the left-over pieces from my Pick A Bunch quilt.



I resisted the urge to use my favorite straight-line quilting and gave pebble quilting a try. I love the effect, but WOW does it ever use a lot of thread! I went through 2 bobbins on this little quilt top.



As cute as this would look in my sewing room, it is a gift for a friend. Hope she likes it too!

50 Fabulous Stars

Last month I picked up a copy of Carol Doak's book 50 Fabulous Paper-Pieced Stars and a package of her foundation paper.



And I knew just which star I wanted to make first... the Maine Star.



I love the finished block!!


And I love how easy the paper is to remove.

Quilt Labels

I've been quilting, off and on, for almost 20 years now. And in those 20 years can you guess how many quilts I've labeled? ZERO!! Oh, I know they should have labels, but for one reason or another it just never seems to happen.

Well, hopefully all that will change now that I have 90 labels ready to go:



Not too bad for a girl whose graphic design knowledge stops at MS Paint.

Kona

Last night I took one of these...



... and turned it into this...



I've had the thought in my head for a while, but finally decided to take my scissors to one of the cards while in the Hobby Lobby fabric department. I was waiting... and waiting, and waiting, and waiting... to have some Kona cut when I spied this fabric...



...after playing with the bits and pieces I put together a little fabric selection (hard to believe, but even with 220+ colors, there were still a few colors I couldn't match exactly).








Next I played around with some blues and greens. A couple of weeks ago I bought a bunch of Kona colors online... the colors had been suggested, and I bought them without consulting the Kona color card. But I just haven't been loving the full selection... the green keeps yelling at me. So I played around with replacements... and I think I've found a new combination I like.
