Scrappy Tumbler

I've been kicking around the idea of a scrappy tumbler quilt for a while now. Partly because I love tumbler quilts, and partly because something needs to be done with the scrap bins...

Scraps
That picture is from December... it is even fuller now!

So Sunday and Monday evening I went through all 6 bins, cutting 1 tumbler from any scrap that was big enough (they need about a 5" x 5" piece of fabric). I realized something... most of my scraps are small... too small to cut tumblers. But I did manage to get 148 tumblers cut (with only 1 repeat I think).

The start of a Scrappy Tumbler quilt. 148 cut so far.

I figure I need 141 more to make a decent size lap quilt. And now for a decision...
*Do I go back through the scrap bins and cut more from those scraps that are big enough?
*Do I start cutting up fat quarters?
*Or do I keep this entirely scrappy and wait until I have more big scraps in the bin?

love it! I have been tossing around the same idea.

It would not hurt to have some repeats. If you have some lonesome fq's that would be an option too.

I love this idea! I say cut some repeats and wait for the bins to fill up again.

Hmm. I know you have lots of other things to work on, so I'd probably wait for more scraps, although I think repeats are okay, too. Very fun! I'm hoping to eventually make that Salt Air tumbler quilt. So fun!
