Project Life - Week 4

January 23 - January 29

Megan and her buddies watching Toy Story 2.

Giving Weight Watchers a try again (on line only this time).

I love when new fabric arrives! Now someone needs to have a baby boy so I have a reason to play with these!

Making progress on my Hope Valley quilt.

Megan's weekly letter project.

After a L.O.N.G. week we didn't feel like cooking Friday night... drive-thru to the rescue.

...followed by our usual Saturday morning breakfast before grocery shopping.

Sad Time in Houston for Quilters

This last week three Houston-area independent fabric shops announced that they were closing.

* Sew Crafty in the Heights - I really wanted to take their intro crochet class. Should have signed up for a class a long time ago.

* Time Treasured Quilts - My mom and I had the chance to spend a couple of hours with Cheryl this summer while checking out the Gammil Long-Arm machines... such a nice lady! I only wish her shop had been closer to me (almost an hour away)... I would have spent A LOT more time there!

* Sew Contempo in Missouri City - They are keeping their original Clear Lake store open, but closing down the Missouri City location. This was a great resource for hard-to-find prints! I'll really miss them and will have to stop by the other store the next time HMQG meets in the area.

Slow economy... rising cotton prices... tight credit... it is a hard time to be a small business. Make sure to give your favorite independent-fabric stores a little love.

First Quilt Top of 2011

My first quilt top of 2011 is complete.

(Actually I finished it last week, but just now got around to taking pictures.)

Adding it the pile of quilt tops that need quilting...

Monday, January 24, 2011

In addition to the quilting/crafty goals I set for 2011, my personal goal for this new year is to simplify.

And a big part of simplify is to get rid of clutter. So I was thrilled when I found the blog 365lessthings and inspired by her Mini-Mission Monday posts. Each and every one of her items this week is on my mental to do list.

Decluttering list for the week:
Monday: jewelry box
Tuesday: one digital photo subfolder
Wednesday: one unused electrical device
Thursday: overlooked Christmas decorations
Friday: declutter one item of aspiration clutter
Saturday: spice rack
Sunday: picnic basket/items **I don't have a picnic basket so I'll be going through the cabinet that holds water bottles and store refillable cups/mugs.

Project Life - Week 3

January 16 - January 22

Megan meets Uncle Matt's new puppy.

Christmas decorations are gone, but I still haven't taken down the Christmas cards.

Quilt top #2 for 2011 all ready to be sewn together.

Megan loves her homework! I don't look forward to the day that changes.

23 years after my braces came off I was back at the orthodontist to be fitted for Invisalign.

Our usual Friday evening... sale ads, recipes, and the grocery list.

So very tired after a birthday party at BounceU.

Good Mail Day

I've had some fun swapping fabric recently. Goodies from CA and The Netherlands arrived today.

Swap Goodies

And I was super surprised to find a little bit of Katie Jumps Rope Blue Ribbon Flowers tucked in with my fabrics!!! I'm down to one missing print now (Green Basketweave).

Another swap should be arriving from Canada soon... a couple of Moda Charm Packs.

Double Trouble

I started sewing together a quilt Tuesday and knew from the start that I couldn't chain piece... I know me... something would get flipped or pieced together out of order. And with the layout of this quilt that would mean too much time with my seam ripper.

About the time I was finishing up the third row I was wishing I had some leaders/enders... at least then I wouldn't have to deal with strings and a loose first stitch on EVERY SINGLE new seam. Well, I didn't have any pieces cut for leaders/enders, but I could work in the half square triangles for my next project.

So here I am... stitching one side of a half square triangle, then one square, then the other side of a half square triangle...

2 Projects At Once

...wish me luck!

Project Life - Week 2

January 9 - January 15

Megan and Bill's bear... not a great picture, but she wouldn't stay there for more than a minute.

Cleaning out our home office this week I found an English-language German cookbook from the 1950's

My Project Life kit finally arrived (it was supposed to be delivered Monday)

12 years old and 74,000 miles... We drive it maybe once a week and had to buy new tires this week, not because of tread wear, but after 6 years they had dry-rot!

Working on my 2011 Goals

Big pile of "stuff" that will be going to the resale shop next week.

Tranquility - WIP

Look at that... working on two of my 2011 goals...

Tranquility - WIP

... using my stash and making a quilt from Schnibbles Times Two.

The borders are in the works and I may just get this top pieced before the end of the month.

Project Life - Week 1

January 1 - January 8

Christmas is over and the decorations are packed away.

Megan goes for her first bike ride.

She's such a little trooper!

A sneak peek of my possible project for the Houston Modern Quilt Guild Charm Pack Challenge... can't wait for the challenge fabric to arrive!

Oh how I love my Moo Cow Creamer!

The smile on the Amazon box makes me so happy!

The new Moda catalog arrived today!

How I've gotten through the last couple of days.

Sneak Peek

Houston Modern Quilt Guild (HMQG) is going to have a Charm Pack challenge in 2011. The challenge hasn't started yet, but an idea has been swimming around in my brain for a while now.

So I grabbed a Charm Pack (Happy by Me & My Sister Designs) and got to work on a trial run. And so far it is working out just like I envisioned!

I can't wait to see how this will look in our challenge fabric!!

2011 Vision Board

I spent some time this weekend creating a vision board for the coming year.

2011 Vision Board

I found a picture for just about every aspect of my life... Family... Money... Travel... Health & Fitness... Whimsy... Material Wants...

Now to find the perfect spot to hang this so I have it as a daily reminder.
