Finally...

How long ago did Rachel finish up the Pinwheel Sampler Quilt Along? On second thought, I really don't want to know...


...But I finally finished the last two sets of blocks. Now I just need to square them up (bought a 12.5" ruler at JoAnns today for 50% off!!), sash, quilt and bind. And I'm thinking about using my scraps to do something like this or this or this.

Week 22 Stash Report

Another week with not much fabric in or out, but I was able to finish up some projects.

First up - I pieced together another Quilts For Kids kit. The kit was missing one of the orange strips so I made some double-yellow blocks. I don't love it, but since I really didn't have anything else that would work with the fabrics, it will have to do. Now to quilt it and get this one and the first one back to them.


I finally ironed and cut into 4.5" squares the strips I made up for the Modern Siggy Swap round 2. Now to sign them and get them in the mail to Julie.

I added the borders to the quilt for my father-in-law. The fabric for the borders was my only fabric in and out - about 1.5 yards.


And I've been working on my Hexagon Charm Quilt. I have somewhere over 400 hexagons now, and have used Love U, Verna, Plume, Boutique, Migration, Oz, Freebird, Tweet Tweet, Make Life, Hunky Dory, along with some pieces from my scrap bin.

Week 21 Stash Report

I didn't get anything made from my stash this week - I put that aside to start on a quilt for Father's Day for my father-in-law. I also made the crayon apron for the Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day winner from my blog. It is going out in tomorrow's mail. I hope her little girl loves it!

I didn't count the Bird Talk fabric as either IN or OUT this week - I cut straight from the bolt, and just what I needed for the apron.

Friday Night Sew-In

I participated in my first Friday Night Sew-In last night. There were a ton of projects I would have liked to have completed Friday night, but I ended up spending most of the evening on the sofa watching TV with hubby (had to catch up on Lost!!).

I did put together this quilt top for my father-in-law. Still trying to decide if I want to put a couple of borders on it...

(Sorry for the picture quality - between the sun, the wind, the dog, and my 2-year-old helper, I had terrible time trying to get a couple of pictures!)

Now that the fun of Giveaway Day is over, how about a SALE? This weekend is Spring Quilt Market... a great time when all of the upcoming lines are shown to fabric buyers. I'm missing not being there! Week 20 Stash Report

Another weekly Stash Report and another week with no pictures. But I have a REALLY GOOD reason... I bought a new computer today and haven't moved everything over yet. So this week's pictures are still sitting on my camera.

If I had uploaded the pictures before I started moving computers, you'd see pictures of Modern Siggy Swap 2 blocks (all sewn and ready to be sub-cut into 4.5" squares) and a sneak peak of the pillow I'm making for the Pillow Talk {Swap} (I LOVE it so far, it is going to be hard to let it go!!)

All in all I did really well this week... all of the above was made with fabrics I have on hand, and the only thing I purchased this week was 1 yard of fabric to make the back (and maybe lining) of the swap pillow.

Preschool Backpack

I figured the little one is getting big enough to have her own backpack for all the important things (diapers, books, toys) and then maybe Mommy can stop carrying around a diaper bag.


So I tried out the Preschool Backpack from You Can Make This. I had a couple of problems with the pattern (including one piece that had to be recut becuase the instructions were wrong - although the pictures were right) and I'm not thrilled with the interfacing I used (I already know what I'm going to try next time).



But Megan LOVES it!! She has already started carrying around her Jessie doll and her lambie. Let's see if she still likes it this weekend and then maybe I really can ditch that diaper bag!

Week 19 Stash Report

A day late and no pictures... my computer caught a little cold this weekend, and by the time I got it back up and running last night I just couldn't look at it again. Now I've got to add back in all the pictures I've taken since March (good thing I still have them on my camera!)


What did I work on this week?

Hexagons: I swapped 2.5" fabric squares with a couple of ladies on Flickr... it worked out perfectly... we each cut a couple of Charm packs into fourths and swapped... so now I have lots of different fabrics to add to my Hexagon quilt... I've made my way through Freebrid, Oz, Boutique, Love U, Verna, and Plume... and I'm working on Hunky Dory.

Preschool Back Pack: I'm making a little backpack for Megan to carry her books and toys... maybe Mommy can finally get rid of the diaper bag! There have been a few issues putting it together (I've found 3 mistakes in the pattern... including one part that I had to recut - ugh!!). It will be finished soon, and I'll be sure to share pictures when all done.

Quilt For Kids

Discussions on the Houston Modern Quilt Guild forum introduced me to Quilts For Kids. They transform discontinued, unwanted, and other fabrics into patchwork quilts for children with life-threatening illnesses. All you have to do is sign up on their web site and they'll send you a kit with everything but the quilt batting. They even pre-cut the fabric into strips for you!

I quilted it this morning on my Janome 6600P. This was the first time I've quilted something larger than 10" x 12" on a regular sewing machine, and while I still prefer using a long-arm quilting machine, it was nice to be able to knock this out on my sewing machine.

All that's left is to add the label to the back (also included in the kit) and mail it back. I hope some little girl enjoys the quilt!

Easiest Quilt Ever

This has to be the easiest quilts I've ever made... and one of the most fun. All it takes is 1 Jelly Roll and a little extra fabric if you want to add a border like I did (but really, it is big enough for a lap quilt without the borders.)

Week 18 Stash Report

Quick post with no pictures... it was that kind of a weekend!

In this week... Flutterby Charm Packs, some fabric for borders on the Boutique quilt top I put together Saturday, and a couple yards I picked up on clearence at Hobby Lobby (which matches 3 other pieces I already have... one super-cute Fleiz dress for Megan sometime in the future)

Out this week... Boutique Jelly Roll and fabrics for the borders. I loved this putting this quilt together! And can't wait to get some good pictures of it to share.


So I was thinking about a little challenge for myself this month... make one thing each week from my stash. And I already have a couple of projects in mind. Let's see how it goes!
