Week 9 Stash Report

How cute are these little birds!!!

The pattern is from Spool. And I used left over pieces of Moda's Wiscasset and Rouenneries fabrics from the Cookie Monday Scarf-Along. I have 10 sewn (6 of those stuffed) and another 10 cut out. Maybe these will become decorations for Christmas.

Of course I should have been working on other things this weekend, but I just couldn't resist the little birds ;-) So for the next week or so, here's what I need to get done:

1. Catch up on Rachel's Pinwheel Sampler Quilt-Along (I have week 1 and 2 cut out and partially sewn)
2. Make Megan's outfit for our trip to the Rodeo
3. Make Megan a couple of things for our trip to San Antonio
4. Make Megan and Connor crayon wallets for the trip to San Antonio
5. Work on a quilt for ME!! (from Verna)
6. Make a Crayon Apron for the Glitter & Gloss raffle

Pillow Case #2

Pillow case #2 is done! I love how this one turned out... Quilting Treasures Ringling Bros. Circus fabric makes up the main part of the case, while Riley Blake Essential Dots were used for the cuff and accent piece.

The kit is in my shop for the next week at a special price.

Week 8 Stash Report

Look at that...

... today I made my first ever piece of adult clolthing! Oh I have tons of patterns - tops, skirts, dresses - but I've never actually USED any of them. And this one has a zipper!! Almost 20 years of sewing and I've never put in a zipper. It isn't perfect, but looks a lot better than I thought it would for my first one.

This fabric doesn't count for my weekly stash amounts though. The skirt is for a friend and she supplied the fabrics.

Give or Give Up?

Rather than give up something for Lent, this year I'm challenging myself to GIVE something. American Patchwork and Quilting is sponsoring the 1 Million Pillowcase Challenge this year and I've decided that for every week of the Lent season (6 weeks) I'm going to make at least 1 pillowcase to donate to a local charity.

If you'd like to join me in this, I've posted my pillowcase instructions below. And each week I'll be listing a new pillowcase kit in my shop at a discount. This week's fabrics are Love U by Deb Strain for Moda and Essential Dots by Riley Blake Designs.

Pillowcase Instructions:
Supplies:
3/4 yard main fabric
1/8 yard trim fabric
1/3 yard cuff fabric

Step 1
Cut down the 1/8 yard trim piece to your desired size. I've used 2.5" here. Fold the piece in half lengthwise with wrong sides together and pin (or press.)
Step 2
Lay the main fabric right side up with the selvages on the right and left side (cut edges at the top and bottom.) Align your folded trim piece along the raw edge of the top of the main fabric and pin.
Step 3
Pin your cuff fabric, right sides together, to the main fabric/trim combination.
Step 4
Flip your fabric "sandwich" over so that the cuff fabric is now laying against the table.
Step 5
Starting at the bottom of the main fabric, fold up the main fabric until all of the fabric is gathered over the top half of the cuff fabric.
Step 6
Take the bottom edge of the cuff fabric, and bring it over the rolled up main fabric. Pin the raw edges. The trim and main fabric are now inside a "tube" created by the cuff fabric.
Step 7
Sew with a 1/4" seam along the raw edge.
Step 8
Reach into the "tube" and pull out the main fabric (the cuff fabric will turn right side out at the same time.)
Step 9
Press well.
Step 10
Trim off the selvages and even up the fabrics along the long edge of the case.

Step 11
Sew the side and bottom seams. Finish with a serger or zig-zag stitch. Or you could use French Seams.

Step 12
Enjoy your new pillowcase!!

Week 7 Stash Report

Can you believe it? I didn't add any fabric to my stash this week!!

Ok - don't get too excited. I did order a couple of Honey Buns (Neptune!!) last night that should be here next week.

I also made a good dent in my stash with 2 flannel rag quilts for Project Linus.

They both still need to have the seams snipped and be washed/dried and then they will be ready to go into the mail.

The blue quilt is about 40" x 50" and is made from repurposed fabrics. Probably 3 years ago I started 2 baby blankets that never really materalized into anything. I took what coordinated from those 2 blankets (and tossed what I couldn't use), then added in new fabric for the backing. The pink quilt is a little bigger, and uses much bigger squares (8 inches finished vs 5 inches finished on the blue quilt) so it went together much faster.

And I used the Accufeed system on my new Janome 6600P for the first time. OMG - how did I ever sew without that!! I'm in love!!

Week 6 Stash Report

So I thought I was going to have my first week without any additions to my stash. And then Thursday arrived...

I started out the day by finding myself near Hancock Fabrics. And since I don't get by there very often I thought I'd stop in just to look. Well, just looking turned into buying 3 yards of fabric - 2 yards of the cutest puppy dog print at 40% off (I'll make something for Megan to wear to the dog show this summer) and 1 yard of a Mickey Mouse print that ended up being about $1.50 (should have bought more of that!!)

And then later that day I got an email that Quilter's Emporium was going to have their annual Fat Quarter sale Saturday. All fat quarters would be $1.25 each (20 FQ min to get sale price.) So Mom and I made plans to go.

I didn't really have anything specific I was looking for - some black and white prints would be nice for another string quilt I want to make - but nothing I really NEEDED. In the end I didn't get and black and white prints, but I did score some goodies!

As I was picking through the tables full of FQs I saw a couple of bundles of Moda's Horsin' Around... all the fabrics from the full line! I figured they wouldn't be included in the $1.25 price, but maybe they'd still be on sale (since most fabrics were also on sale). Mom and I both grabbed a bundle. And imagine how happy we were when one of the store employees walked up to us and commented on what a great deal we were getting with the set. We asked, just to make sure, and sure enough - they were included in the FQ sale! So all together I walked out with 40 FQs (and a pattern.) Now to figure out what to do with it all!
