Ribbons

Late last Sunday I got a wild hair and thought I'd look into the Creative Arts contest at the Ft. Bend County Fair. I knew the fair was starting Friday, so I figured I'd be too late for this year, but at least I'd have an idea of timing for next year. Well to my surprise they hadn't started taking entries yet... entries were scheduled for all day Wednesday and Thursday morning.

I told Chris that I was thinking about entering and he immediately said I should enter the dog outfit I made Megan this summer. Ok - entry #1 taken care of.

And then I thought about the crayon apron I made a couple of weeks ago. Everyone I've shown the apron to (or pictures of it) has loved it. Except that would mean I'd have to make one... before Wednesday. No problem! I had more of the same fabrics, and Chris would be studying Monday and Tuesday night...

I got everything made, pressed, and dropped off Wednesday evening. And Thursday afternoon the call came... I won an Outstanding Rosette for the crayon apron. And guess what?!? When we got to the fair Saturday, I realized that the crayon apron also won a first place ribbon, and the dog outfit won a first place ribbon. Not bad for my first time! I'm already excited about next year's fair. Maybe I'll even give the Texas State Fair a try...

I Love YouCanMakeThis.com!!!

Not only have I been able to make some super cute outfits for Megan from the patterns on YouCanMakeThis...

...but yesterday they solved a last-minute gift need!

Hubby called me at work about 2:30 Friday afternoon to let me know Megan had a birthday party to go to Saturday morning. So I was trying to figure out not only what to get a 5 year-old girl, but when I could fit in shopping, when inspiration struck.... check out what's available on YCMT. And there I found the Crayon Apron pattern. I was able to purchase the pattern, print it out, read over all the instructions, and plan out my fabrics all before I left the office for the day (ok - I really should have been working on a Bankruptcy, but it will still be there Monday!) Then after Megan went to bed I put together the apron while watching Eureka and Psych, and still made it to bed on time.

I think the birthday girl liked it! And one of the other moms wanted to know where I had found the apron - guess that's a good sign that someone else thought it was as cute as I did!

A Couple New Things

The last couple of weeks have been a little crazy around here, but I have been able to complete a couple of things.

Dinner Napkins
A few weeks ago Megan started wanting a placemat and napkin at the table just like Mommy and Daddy. Well I had some dog fabrics that I didn't know what to do with, so I used them for napkins for each of us. So much cuter than the plain blue ones we had been using! I really liked the pattern I used, but boy did it use a lot of fabric - 3/4 yard of three different fabrics made 3 napkins.

Another New Look Top
We took a family road trip to Central Texas last weekend to visit the Cabela store in Buda. Wow - that's one big store! And for the trip I made Megan a pink camo top from one of my go-to patterns.

I know things are not going to slow down around here this fall/winter. So I've tried to come up with a bit of a game plan...
September = finish up some in-process projects
October = play around with embroidery machine and test out Embird
November = sew for Disney trip
