May Giveaway Day!!!

Sew Mama Sew is hosting May Giveaway Day on Wednesday May 27th. This is the first time I'm participating in a giveaway and I'm so excited... I've been giving lots of thought to what my giveaway will be. And you know what - I still haven't decided! Maybe a bag, maybe a pincushion, maybe something made from the stash of patterns I buy every year at the Quilt Show and then do nothing with... I guess we'll all have to stay tuned to see how inspiration strikes me.

Now for the details:
  • The giveaway will be open from now until May 31st.
  • To enter, post a comment here. And in support of Project 95 let me know your favorite independent fabric retailer... it can be a traditional brick-and-mortor shop, a web shop, an etsy seller... it doesn't matter. And post a link if you can - I love "window" shopping!!

Check out Sew Mama Sew tomorrow for a full list of participating blogs. Have fun!

Sewing, Sewing, and More Sewing

What a wonderful, busy (but relaxing) 4-day weekend we had! And I even found enough time to complete a few projects and start a few more.

First up - more sewing for the Disney trip. These three were in some form of compeltion before this weekend, and I am so happy that I was able to get them all done (I really don't like having that many partially complete projects at one time!)

CarlaC's Easy Fit Pants (from You Can Make This) - These really are easy!! I can't wait to make more of these for Megan.

Bloomers (Simplicity 2872) - These will go under the Patchwork Twirl Skirt

Patchwork Twirl Skirt - Wow, was this a lot of cutting and sewing! As I was making it I kept thinking I'd never make another one. But now that I'm done, I'm already planning the next one (kind of like running marathons - ha ha ha!)

This weekend we bought Megan her first pillow - a little travel pillow that fits just perfect on her bed. So of course I had to make her a pillow case. I'm so happy with how this turned out!! I was really afraid I had cut the fabrics too small, but it fit perfectly. And this time I used a different method to put it together than I usually use - so much easier and quicker! I'll be using this method from now on.

I also found a little time to begin a quilt - the same style as my Seashell quilt, but a little smaller (more like a baby quilt size.) Hopefully I'll have a completed top to show off soon.

More Disney Sewing

I've already been working on a few things for our Disney trip later this year. Right now the talley stands at 3 items completed, 3 items in various stages of completion, and a few items I'll start once these are done.

To add to the Pieces of Mickey top from a few weeks ago, here's a hat and flower pin (which I'm thinking of adding to the hat) for Megan to wear on our trip...

(Puppy was a last minute stand-in; my usual model won't keep the hat on for more than 2 seconds)

What a Week!!

I woke up last Sunday morning (Mother's Day) sick... cough, sore throat and felt terrible. I usually get over colds quickly, but this one just wouldn't go away. Thinking I had something serious like Strep or Bronchitis, I went to the doctor Wednesday, but it turned out to be.... ALLERGIES! I finally started to feel a little better Friday, and Saturday I had enough energy to attend Idea Saturday at Sunflower Quilts with Mom and Megan and make a quick trip to IKEA. But I got almost no sewing done this week. I still have 5 items to complete for the Spring/Summer Wardrobe Challenge at TheFabricObsession - deadline is June 1st - wonder if I'll get them all done in time!

I did have a nice surprise Monday - I was one of the Pay It Forward winners at Crystal's Blog. I can't wait to see what she surprises us with! And to keep the good vibes going, I'll be hosting my own Pay It Forward giveaway soon.

And speaking of giveaways - SewMamaSew is organizing a Blog Giveaway for later this month. On May 27th SewMamaSew will have a list of all the participating blogs. The giveaways will be open until the 31st, so stop by and take a look at all the talented participants. And check back here - I'm thinking of participating, and will have a post up next weekend if I do.

And a few more...

I made 3 more swing tops this week.

First up - 2 for my sister:
My sister is going to Colorado this summer with a friend. Their host (I think the friend's sister) has a little girl, so my sister asked if I could make a top that she could take along as a hostess gift. Sunday afternoon she brought me these fabrics and I sewed them up early this week.

For Megan to wear on our Disney Trip:
Megan's day care was closed Tuesday and Wednesday (they got flooded with all the rain we had Monday night/Tuesday morning). Chris stayed home with her Tuesday; I took Wednesday and got this one done. (OK - its not 100% done... just as I was starting to sew on the buttons I decided I wanted different ones. I need to make a trip to JoAnns for some buttons... maybe tomorrow.)
