It's been a while...

Wow - I can't believe how long it has been since I was last here. I wasn't even sure I'd remember my password!!

I've been busy with the final details for a fundraising event I'm co-chairing. The second annual Pancakes & Pajamas Children's Festival presented by Fort Bend Junior Service League and Richmond Bone and Joint Clinic is next Saturday. This year's event beneficiary is Fort Bend Community Partners Rainbow Room. For more information on this great organization, please check out their web site -

This year's theme is Clowning Around and I've been toying with making Megan a special outfit to wear. Well, today I found this fabric (the yellow is from my stash and the rick rack I'm still debating):

I think I'll make the wrap top I used for Thanksgiving and Christmas. It's an easy pattern and I know I'll be able to complete it in an evening.

Completed Quilt Top
I did have a little downtime earlier this week and was able to finish the Fatty, Fatty 2x4 top. Now I just need to find a little time to get over to Mom's and use her Long Arm machine. This quilt will be for Chris. He has been telling me for the last month or two that he needs a new sofa blanket.

Clothes for Megan

In the last week I've made a couple of new things for Megan:

Embroidered Onesie
I've had my embroidery machine for 4 or 5 months now but hadn't yet tried to embroider on knit fabrics. So when I saw that this month's Embroidery Club at Quilter's Emporium was doing an applique on knit I knew I had to go. And boy am I glad I did!! Like everything else, with the proper stablizer knit stitches up easily. Now working on a onesie is another story! Even with an 18 month onesie it was a struggle to get the front hooped in the 5x7 hoop and keep everything else out of the way as the machine stitched.

OU Top
Hubby is an OU fan. He doesn't watch much college football, but does try to catch the OU games when they are on. So in honor of Thursday's championship game I made Megan an OU top with some fabric I picked up when in Tulsa last year. I still can't believe I only bought 1 yard. Oh well, I'm sure we'll make a trip to Tulsa sometime this year.

I finally have the quilts completed, photographed, and the pictures loaded, so here they are...

Gift Quilt

This was a fun little quilt to make. And it was my first try at machine quilting on my mom's long-arm quilting machine. What fun!! I was able to finish this one and deliver it before the end of 2008.

Megan's Quilt

I LOVE this quilt. I've been collecting cat fabrics for 10+ years, but never knew what I was going to do with them. When Megan came along I finally knew what I wanted to use them for. Except this is probably only 1/2 of the fabrics I've collected (and I used 45 different fabrics.)

I quilted this on my mom's long-arm machine before Christmas, but couldn't get the binding completed until earlier this week. Once it was done I set the quilt on the floor in front of Megan and she squeeled with delight. I guess that means she likes it!

UFO, WIP, WISP... whatever you call them, I sure do have a lot of them! Everytime I think about the time and money I have invested in uncompleted projects I get overwhelmed and stop thinking about it... ha ha ha.

This evening I was checking out one of my favorite quilt blogs and she had a post about a One Project A Month Challenge. Since this sounded like a challenge I needed I headed over to this blog and this blog for details. And now I'm signing up. Wish me luck!

Oh, I haven't forgotten about the 2 quilts I have to show. They, along with my first machine embroidery on knit, will be updated sometime this week - I promiss!

Happy New Year!!!

Happy New Year everyone!

I have a completed quilt to show, but I think I'll show it off later this week. By then I should have the binding completed on a second quilt and I can show them together.

So instead I'll share with you my New Year's Resolutions:

Better Health - I haven't yet taken off all of the baby weight (let's not even mention the 20 pounds I wanted to lose before I got pregnant) and I've noticed that lately my asthma has been giving me more problems and my knees hurt. I know what I need to do - I've done it before - I just need to make a committment to myself!

Read More - Looking over my Book Journal for the last couple of years I noticed that I read about 30 books a year. This year I challenge myself to read 52!!! One a week!!! I already have plans for about half the books - HCC Book Club selections (11), books 1 - 6 of the Sookie Stackhouse series (17), book 3 & 4 from the Twilight series (19), Lost on Planet China (20), and the three new books I pruchased today (23). And PaperBackSwap shows I have 65+ books on my To Be Read list.

Complete Projects - Some of these I've already started, some I only have the supplies for... I'd like to say that I won't buy any more fabric or supplies until these are all completed, but I know that won't happen! But I'll as many of these as possible:
  1. Disappearing 9-patch quilt (I have the fabric for the quilt top)
  2. Charm Quilt with Moda Zaza fabric (I have the fabric for the quilt top)
  3. Loralie Dog Quilt (kit I purchased at the 2008 Quilt Festival)
  4. Dog Quilt with Embroidered Dog and Minkey Back (I've collected most of the fabrics)
  5. Weeds in God's Garden Quilt (kit I purchased at a local quilt shop earlier this year)
  6. Fall Lap Quilt (kit I purchased at a local quilt shop on clearence last week)
  7. Fatty, Fatty 2x4 Quilt (the blocks are pieced it just needs to be put together)
  8. Embroidered Advent Calendar (I have the fabrics I just need to purchase the embroidery file)
  9. Tote Bag
  10. T-Shirt Quilt (I forgot about this quilt until I found it in a box last week)
  11. Aprons (the same designer that made the Merry Christmas embroidery file I stitched out last week has a Valentine's and Thanksgiving file that I want to stitch out)
  12. Floral Pin Cushion
  13. Outfits for Megan (OU for next week's bowl game, Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Mardi Gras, Rodeo, Easter, P&P Children's Festival, and a December 2009 Disney World Trip)
  14. 2009 Christmas/Birthday Gifts (Megan is going to get a play kitchen so I need to get started on an apron, chef's hat and play food)

And I'll leave you with this from the Today Show this morning - Don't accept NO from someone that isn't empowered to tell you YES.

I hope you have a healthy, happy and prosperous New Year!!
